NATIONAL ANTHEM & PLEDGE Before God and all mankind, I pledge the love and loyalty of my heart, the wisdom and courage of my mind, the strength and vigour of my body in the service of my fellow citizens; NATIONAL HEROES Jamaica’s National Heroes dared to challenge the institution of colonialism and in so doing changed the course of Jamaica’s history giving social and political freedom to its people. NATIONAL HONOURS & AWARDS The Jamaican Honours System has developed as a unique entity since the passage of the National Honours and Awards Act by the Parliament of Jamaica in 1969 (Act No. 21 of 1969). EMANCIPATION When full Emancipation came in 1838 a system that had been tried and tested in the Caribbean since the sixteenth century came to an end.
